Yes, there is a National Singles day! While we love to create holidays that aren't really holidays here in the US, Black Friday, Cyber Monday..... we are not responsible for this one! It was inspired by China's Singles Day. In the 1990's a group of college students but quickly became a retail holiday. China reports that it generates sales near 9 billion in the year of 2014. According to http://nationalsinglesday.us/ this holiday has doubled the sales of the U.S. Black Friday and Cyber Monday!
China celebrates their Singles Day on November 11th every year, they believe 11:11 symbolizes the term, 'Bare Branches' which is actual slang in China for a single person. Here in the U.S. most singles have declared Singles day on February 15th, the day after Valentines Day. Makes Sense?
Though the website http://nationalsinglesday.us notes on their site that they plan to change the date of National Singles Day in the U.S. in 2017, pushing it up to September. How do you celebrate singles day? Do you celebrate it?
